Holiday Gift Ideas for Sailors

We know what sailors want for the holidays and here are 4 things that are bound to please.

The holidays are getting closer! With just 4 weeks left to get your family and crew the gear they love and want. Remember, a happy crew equals a happy skipper. I've got several products to show you that would be PERFECT as gifts.

First up to bat is the Dubarry Wallet. Its super soft leather lets you feel at ease, knowing that your cash and cards are always comfortable when riding along in your pockets. Also great for the sailor who has a pair of the matching Ultima Stretch Sea Boots or may be getting some in the near future (hint, hint).

Next is the Outdoor Research Sombrero, an essential piece of gear if for staying dry in a down pour. Gore-Tex, sombrero brim, and taped seams—what more do you need?

Have you been searching for a game for your family to play after dinner? Fear not—your searching is over. The Nautical Trivia game is the ultimate way to show off your knowledge of sailing with your family and friends. Move over Monopoly…this game is sweeping the sailing community!

Finally, for those of you who love going farther off the dock than most, the SpinlockDeckvest 5D is the item to get.  It’s super comfortable and the best inflatable PFD w/ tether on the market today. Keep your loved ones safe this holiday season.  Plus, as an added bonus, we're throwing in a free tether with purchase of a Deckvest 5D.  Click here for more.

Happy holidays and sail fast!

Holiday Gift Ideas for Sailors

We know what sailors want for the holidays and here are 4 things that are bound to please.

I’ll start with the classic Weems and Plath Compass Chart Weight.   It has a very nice finish with beveled edges, available nickel or brass.  On the bottom is a velvet-like material to prevent scratching surfaces like finished wood.  With a working compass, any novice or seasoned sailor would really appreciate the craftsmanship of this piece.

Next is the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) Laser Handbook by Paul Goodison, a European, Olympic, and World champion.  The author explains Laser sailing on all levels and simplifies the fundamentals making it fun and easier to understand.  He covers everything from fitness and nutrition to tactics and regatta preparation.  This is a can’t go wrong gift for any Laser sailor.

A bestseller from Gill, the OS2 Jacket is great looking, comfortable, versatile.  Any sailor who is cruising or racing around their home waters in the cooler months The fluorescent hood and reflective material on the shoulders, chest, and cuffs make the jacket that much safer while cruising, racing, OR walking the dog at night!

Lastly, the most important thing for any sailor, safety, and the Spinlock Deckware Safety Knife is a must for anyone employing tethers or safety lines.  It’s a very high quality safety tool enabling a sailor to cut free with a “valley” like shape to keep the blade unexposed, yet ready to use, preventing accidental cutting of both you and your gear.  A good, compact handle is designed to be easily grabbed onto when needed and comes with a lanyard secured to it's sheath.  It is lightweight, compact, and intuitive to use.  A great gift for any offshore sailor.

Holiday Gift Ideas

We know what sailors want for the holidays and Aaron from Customer Service is here to help with four items that are bound to please.

What the heck is that jingly noise…AH!!! It’s the holidays, already!

Hey at least we wait until after Halloween to start breaking out the tinsel!  Here are some gift ideas that will make any sailor, naughty or nice, very happy.

All of the gift ideas shown here are one size, so you don’t have to re-live that weigh in awkwardness. Remember? When you asked them to run around the block at NA’s… Yeah, they probably earned a gift for that.

First up is the Harken Sailcloth Wallet available in Kevlar (yellow), Pentex (white), and new for this year a carbon 3Deye fabric (gray/black). Let the world know your love for sailing with this well priced perennial favorite.

Next is the new version of our best selling sailing watch. The 2014 version of the Ronstan Race Timer has a large face good for all eyeballs old and young, and big buttons that can be used easily even by gloved hands.

The other unique feature of the Race Timer is its large elastic band and the fact that the watch can be rotated in the bezel. The elastic allows the watch to go over a spray top or drysuit making it ideal for the frostbiter. It also can be mounted around a Laser™ mast or with the recessed holes on the back, screwed to a bulkhead or thwart on an Opti (Jr. never finds themselves in their boat without a timer!).

The Weems and Plath Stormglass is a mystical instrument used by the legendary Admiral FitzRoy. The then Captain mounted it to the mast of the HMS Beagle on its historic 1831 voyage with a man named Charles Darwin. Great for a history buff or the sailor who has everything. This functional show piece can be displayed on a desktop or mounted vertically on a wall with the included hardware.

Last, the perfect thing for stuffing stockings.  The Gill MarineTool has the essentials that your sailor needs to be safe onboard. It even has a flat head screwdriver (or beer opener for after the race). It also comes with a carrying case that can go on a belt or mast harness.

Ho Ho Ho!

Freestyle Mariner Watch Review

And GUN!  The class flag goes up; 5 minutes to the next start, and no one caught the sequence because sandwiches are still on deck!?!?

Worry not, because YOU have The Mariner Watch by Freestyle.  Go ahead and start the timer, and around minute 4 you can get spot on synchronization with the tap of a button.   Yes, a sync button.  But wait there’s more…

This puppy is called the Mariner for a reason.  Purpose built for the water life, this surfing company has been making uber-waterproof watches for decades.

The buttons can even be pressed underwater (a unique feature called “hydro-push”).   Only having a total of four buttons means the watch is user intuitive, right of the box!

The face has sizable digits that are easy to read, even at a quick glance.  Available in both positive and negative contrast, our personal field testing
has concluded they are both equal in readability during bright days or dark nights (just FYI).

So if it’s finally time for that new race watch, I’d urge you to check out The Mariner by Freestyle.
